Meet Pancho Montego

Sunday, November 16th, 2008

Pancho Montego is a fictional character born from the heads of my students to represent their ideal presidential candidate. His life story leading up to running for president was so interesting and I thought, in light of Obama, I would share this story – cause it rocks!

Meet Pancho Montego…

Pancho Montego was born in south central Los Angeles to Maria and Juan Montego. Maria and Juan had immigrated to the United States to provide a better life for their growing family. They had two children before they moved to the U.S. and then had five more children over the course of their lives here in the states. Pancho was child number three and had a very hard time growing up on the streets of L.A. Pancho fought a lot and was expelled from his elementary school. His older sister helped homeschool him until he entered junior high school. He realized fast that he wanted a better life and the only way to do that was to focus on his grades and stay out of trouble. His involvement in gang activity was inevitable, but Pancho knew he would someday move far away and would not have to deal with the gang members again. After graduation from high school, Pancho moved to northern California and attended a community college while working full time. After two years he was accepted to Stanford University and graduated with a masters in political science.

*Of course you have to remember these are high school students who are not savvy on the whole political scene.*

Pancho Montego was first elected into office as the Mayor of Los Angeles and then as Governor of California. He then took time off to tend to his family and his ailing parents. He lost his father and then ten years later lost his mother to cancer. His children grown and his parents gone, Pancho realized it was the right time to run for president. Pancho had so many awesome views for his America and the changes he could bring. Pancho covered Global Warming, the War, Welfare, Child Care, Health Care, Immigration, family values and a few other great points in his speech to the Government class.

It was truly an awesome moment and my students presented Pancho Montego proudly. The class loved their presidential candidate and cheered for him. It was wonderful. I was very proud of them and everything they came up with. They are both Hispanic and they reflected and created Pancho Montego with what they know. They put things into Pancho’s life that are important to their life. They brought to his campaign the things that they would like to see in their own personal worlds.

It was a fun and entertaining lesson that I had an honor being a part of. Almost every candidate the class created was someone American-born but whose parents immigrated from another country. I believe the overall winner of two classes combined was of Polish decent. Another candidate was African and another was Jewish. We did have a few women and in the end it was the Polish candidate against a woman candidate. The deciding factor came when a student asked the candidates at their debate, “What is your favorite historical moment?” and the woman candidate could not answer the question at all. The students voted as if each one of them were a state and at random each student pulled a card with the state’s name and the number of electoral votes on it. When called upon the student stood, said the state name they represented, gave their deciding vote and the number of electoral votes. It was really a lot of fun!

I do hope that someday there is a real Pancho Montego presidental candidate – cause I’d vote for him!

Oh Boy… You’re Gonna Love This!

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008

Everyone has a right to their thoughts and reactions to reading my blog posts. It’s a free country, and I am free to blog about whatever I want. *yay freedom* I know I am not going to make everyone happy and I know I am going to offend folks, but that’s okay with me. I really love my belief systems, and I feel empowered by them. I feel I know more than others and I feel like I have a pretty good handle on my life. Pleasing others is not a concern for me in any way shape or form… That being said I would love to comment on a comment I got regarding my blog A Tale of Two Woes…

*aheem*

Angry Soldier Wife wrote, “I must say, I am floored by what you wrote.” Sweet! Score one for me because I love a “high almighty know-it-all” – makes for great writing! Then she said, “I am a proud Republican, and I am NOT A REDNECK…” Ummmm…. okay. I never said “redneck,” that was another commenter. Then, “People who say they are for peace and democracy had absolutely no respect for my right to decide.” Angry woman leaving this comment you need to read my post about November 4th, and read it carefully! At the end of the post I wrote that I am not here to sway your vote because you have the right to vote for whomever you want. Angry Soldier Wife, you need to practice what you’re preaching and do your own research – but I’ll get to that later. Next she wrote, “I find it incredibly hard to believe that a person who says they LOVE peace would call people names including their Doctors who are just wanting to be paid for services…” Wow, the dumb is really starting to shine through here Angry Soldier Wife, because I never called my doctor names. I did though say that I like my doctor and I made it clear (but understandably not you) that I was annoyed with the business office. I also wrote that I understand people need to be paid – did I not? Ohhh, I think I did… I am going to guess that you read that I am voting for Obama and it just freaked you out so much that everything you read thereafter was tainted. Continuing on, “…YOU didn’t read your insurance, or that YOU didn’t follow up with YOUR insurance company.

” Did you seriously read my post? I mean, did your brain understand my words? I think maybe you are shooting your nasty little bad-ass self in the foot with stupid comments. Let me explain how this works, 1) read the post, 2) understanding what you’ve read (this helps with step 3), and 3) write a comment about the post you had just read and understood. If step 2 is missing from the equation then you need to abort the mission! Just trying to save you from future embarrassment. Good God Angry Soldier Wife, we checked with the insurance company who said he was covered from the moment he was born (I don’t need to explain born here do I?). Now, if you were at all paying attention I said that we checked to make sure he would be covered because we already knew my insurance was not going to cover him. We did our research…. *breathe* again, I will get to that.

Side note – dealing with stupid people is hard work!

Continuing on, “Take it from someone who knows what it is like to stand in line for medical care with an extremely ill child, and you have to wait until the person in front of you in line has a bandaid changed.” Ummm… hello? Do you know me? Do you have any idea what my life is, or has been, like? NO – so shut the eff up! I have been there done that and seen much worse. The day my fully insured child was turned away from health care because of reasons no one informed us about, was a sad sad day indeed. “It will be you my dear.” Okay. I would pay more taxes to support a better health care system. Difference between Democrats and Republicans. Oh, and “my dear?” You are an old lady – am I right? Angry Solider Wife goes on to rant about my disrespect for the war, the soldiers and my country… “YOU have absolutely no respect for the thousands of soldiers who fought and died for you…” What balls you must have hanging between your legs to say such a thing! You know me through a blog post you read, and didn’t understand. Where did I ever say that? I challenge you to show me where I ever said anything to support such shit pouring out of your mouth. I love the thousands of men and women serving our country! I support them and thank them. This war is not their creation, not their fault and not their choice! I want to see all the husbands, wives, fathers, mother, sons and daughters come home where we can hug them and see them and know that they are safe in our arms. I want them to come back and protect our borders from here, where they are loved and wanted. You MY DEAR have no idea what I respect, but I can tell you it sure the hell is not you! Dumb-ass continues, “You think you know what was found in Iraq.” Oh boy, was someone a little high or drunk when typing the comment? It’s clear Angry Solider Wife was hitting something by this point. “I will be sure and tell my husband, his friends, and the families of those that died, that you do not believe in what he fought for, because you are selfish, and care more about yourself and your peace loving views than you do for our country.” Do you know when to shut up? You are so full of shit I bet you are the only pasty white lady who’s brown! But wait folks, it gets better! “You apparently have forgot about September 11th and all of those people who perished in a cesspool of chaos and hate.” Oh lord! Where are you going? I wrote a pro Obama post and you got all this? Wow, the term “read between the lines” doesn’t mean to make up your own story! I won’t reiterate about how I feel – but you still have no idea who I am and how much 9-11 hurt me…

This woman, who is possibly taking illegal drugs, had a good old time writing a comment on my post. People who know me, know who I am and what I stand for as a human being. I truly could careless about this babbling idiot and her comment she’s so clearly pulled out of her ass. I respect the freedoms I have as an American and I know who to thank. I do not ever want to send my sons to war – and yeah if that makes me selfish then I am guilty as charged! I understand and agree that our soliders need top quality protection – but I  also agree with the clear fact that we need to come home! Although, this is a war I will not win with you, nor do I care what you think. I love human life – all life – and I do not agree with using people as bombs or weapons. Like I said I want to be the nation no one wants to go head-to-head with. I enjoy being all powerful and feared – but I don’t want to use thousands of lives to get there. You want young men and women to go and die for you – you are more selfish than I am! I want to be safe and I truly believe we can do that from home – right here on our own soil. I was pro war in the begining, but now we need to pull back. But, this is not a post about how I feel on the war, this is a post to shove your face in the moronic lies you have created in your comment. The one quote I have been waiting for is this, “On a final note.. Do your research!” Ohhh, I think you need to open your eyes, stop using whatever you’re using and get your head out of your ass. You clearly have issues that need to be dealt with! I do my homework you bitty old hag who has nothing else better to do than than hate on people. I know exactly what I am talking about and writing about – that is so much more than I can say for you! Reread my posts and this time read the words I have typed!

A Tale of Two Woes…

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

First…
I went and voted early – yay for me! I also want to send out props to everyone who has voted early. I do understand that there is a special thrill in voting on election night and I send out props to everyone who votes – period. Of course that is not a woe, so I will get to it now… My friend, and I’ll call her Mama for Obama – because I know she’ll like that, was out and about driving the other day when she was victim of road rage! Mama for Obama has bumper stickers (2) on her car. One that reads, “Impeach Bush” and another that supports Obama for president. Mama for Obama was at a red left turn light when a large clunky old pick-up pulls up behind her. The trashy looking truck moved from behind her to the other left turn lane, and the passenger (a white male) rolled down his window and proceeded to yell at Mama for Obama! She played the “smarter than you” card and kept her window up while “Joe the Plumber” yelled his profanities. Yeah, that’s the way to show your intelligence, roll your window down and cuss out the person voting opposite you. When the light turned green the old truck went clunking along and Mama for Obama held back a bit – being the smarter of the two. The truck then violently pulled over in front of Mama for Obama (with a ton of McCain bumper stickers) and slowed down… Here’s just another huge example of what an idiot this person is – cause an accident and then Mama for Obama will have an epiphany and realize that voting McCain really is the better way to go! Good God! Like I said in my November 4th post – people voting Obama are a peaceful loving people, compared to folks voting McCain who are raging and angry. I just want to thank “Joe the Plumber” in the trashy truck who proudly showed the true McCain spirit. I want to thank you for making my decision to vote Obama justified. Mama for Obama thanks you too…

In relation to my first woe…
My nine-year-old niece told Scott today that if Obama is elected president then when a child fails a test, teachers will preserve the right to pull a gun out from their desk and shoot them! What the hell are the pro McCain folks teaching their children? Makes me sick! Again – thank you dumb McCain voters for making my choice valid.

Second…

Jack baby was sick all last weekend and on Monday I decided he needed to go see the doctor. Jack didn’t run a fever but he was vomiting and couldn’t keep anything down. After three days of that I figured it was good cause to get checked out by the doc. We called and made an appointment for Jack and everything was fine. Although, when we arrived we were greeted with, “I don’t know if the doctor can treat Jack, because the business office needs to talk to you.” WTF! Are you kidding me? The office lady calls over to the business office and says that the business office gave permission for the doctor to treat our son but we needed to go talk to them right after. I sent Scott right over because this was total bull – what business office has the right to turn our sick child away? He was fine, but he could have been running a high fever and he could have been vomiting blood for all they knew! Yet, they were bringing down the hand of God and saying that the doctor could not treat our son. Scott went over to see what the problem was and it turned out to be the STUPIDEST thing ever! Last April (six months ago) Scott’s medical insurance company took money back for treatment from when Jack was born – over a year ago! Now – the business office lady was giving Scott a week to deal with it and get them their money back or they would no longer treat our Boyz… Nice. The business office wanted us to pay them the amount (nearly a thousand) that they claimed the insurance company had taken back. What if we did just dish out the money not wanting to deal with the pain in the ass insurance company? Bank and score for the doctor’s office… Anyhow, the insurance company was confused because they thought my insurance would have covered Jack when he was born and for the first few weeks after. Scott and I knew that my insurance would not so we made sure that his medical insurance would cover Jack the moment he was out of my body. “Ohhh…” – they said. Now the insurance company is (with fingers crossed) going to send the money back to the doctors office. The bottom line was the way they dealt with us about it. I understand people need to be paid, but they could have said, “When you’re done with your visit here you need to go over to our business office. They need to talk to you.” Not, “Oh, I doubt the doctor can treat your son today. The business office needs to see you right away!” Hello mother fuckers, we have a sick baby! We are already freaking out!

Each tale has a similar point – people need to be nicer, kinder and a lot more understanding! Too many folks are running through life in asshole mode and not enough in love thy neighbor mode. Everyone wants to blame everyone else and everyone wants to be mad at everyone else, everyone is over worked and under paid, everyone has no family values… *breathe* We will never change because everyone is right… See the problem? Go out with a smile… because what else can we do?

Although, on a happy and more peaceful note, Obama is leading in the polls!!!
