School's Out for the Summer!
…well, almost. We lucky kids get one week off and then it’s back for summer school. Summer school isn’t all that bad, three hours a day and finished by noon-thirty… who can complain? Let’s not forget the paycheck that comes with the extra work! It would be nice to have the time off, but I am getting five weeks maternity leave at the beginning of the school year. Sure it won’t be the most relaxing five weeks, but it’s five weeks off nonetheless.
This week has been filled with excitement – thus far. On Monday morning both my students showed up to do yard work at our house. I don’t normally have them both work together because they are like teenage girls and cannot stop the chatting and giggling. They want to goof around and not work, so it’s not a good idea to have them here together. Alone they work awesomely – so I split them up. I had one take a load of trash to the dump while the other one came with me to get some Home Depot stuff. The dump was closed and the Home Depot run turned out to be pointless – so there was a huge chunk of the day wasted. I also took my mini-van in to get a little check-up. I don’t want something happening on our drive to Vegas Friday!
Tuesday was a little better with one of my students showing up and getting work done. I took the van into get the front two side windows tinted and then came back home for a bit. At about four-thirty we headed out to Reno to get a few items for the Vegas trip and I ended up shopping for the boys (Sammy and unborn Jack). I bought Jack the cutest little outfits! I cannot wait to put them on him – like my mother-in-law said, “He’s all ready for the beach – that’s what happens when his mom is a California girl.”
Sammy has been a little sillier than usual. We know he loves the water, so we bought him a little kiddie pool to splash around in. He has tubes in his ears and has to be careful of putting his head under water. We figured a little pool would be perfect to cool off and not be tempting to him to dive under like a fishy. He loves the damn pool so much we cannot keep him out of it! He strips down naked and unlocks all the “grown-up” locks we have on the back door, and splash! He doesn’t want to waste time with a swim suit, he just wants to get into the water! Our fella is so little and gets cold so fast, but he doesn’t care if he’s convulsing from the cold, he’s a die hard swimmer! He’ll come out to get wrapped up in a towel and get warm, but as soon as the body temp goes back up, he’s ready to jump back in! Last night we got home pretty late, and while I was in the bathroom getting ready for bed Sammy was in his bedroom playing with his trains. After I finished I went out and looked in his room – no Sammy. The house was really quiet and Sammy was nowhere to be found. Then as I walked into the kitchen I noticed the trail of Sammy clothing leading to the open back door – and out in the night there was my little fella jumping in his pool! He is officially addicted!
We leave Friday for good old Las Vegas! Going to visit my groovy brother and his wife. The sad parts will be 1) the trip is only four days long – with two days of that devoted to driving. and 2) I am going to hate leaving my brother. The trip will be fun though, and I’ll take whatever time with them that I can get!
